Sometimes I wonder why they hired me...

No habla espanol.

And I work in an International department. Where 1/2 of our distributors speak Espanol.

So today I tried to call one of our Mexican distributors to look for my sales guy that is visiting his office. I get their receptionist and ask for my sales dude. She asks me, "No habla espanol?"

So I tried... "Habla Ernesto, por favor?"

I think she then told me that she didn't know anyone by that name. Or said he was going to see a man about a horse. Or tried to tell me that they were really stupid to hire me and not knowing Spanish in an International office. I seriously have no clue. I haven't the slightest.

I then asked her if her boss (our distributor) had a cell phone. Heck, I know my spanish numbers enough to get a phone number. I said,

"Humberto moooobbbbiiiilllleeeee phone?" (really loud and drawn out like she was deaf and dumb.. why do I do that?)

She then said in plain ol' English....

"Monday."

Okay, I really need to brush up on the ol' Spanish. Or watch a lot of Dora with Baby H. Yep, that's what I'll try. Easy for me to understand. =) I'm sure they teach words like "Grain silos" and "chicken feeders". Yep.

Seriously, I'm sure we all would have talked to that woman the same way ;) I bet the kids who watch Dora know more Spanish than we do and I gook it for a year in High School!!! Have a great day!

Quite an entertaining conversation. I've had a few of those myself. I've always wondered after they get off the phone, do they laugh and go tell their friends what I said. The joys of international business:)
