Next question...

Here are the remaining questions from my readers. =)

1)  I want to know your work-out regimen and how the heck you do it with two kids! I struggle to do it with one and I need a kick in the pants to get going!
I cant wait to read your exercise post because I am really trying to get a good workout routine to do here at home.
2) What did you do when you were in college to eat a good tasting meal yet keep it healthy?.. I am running out of ideas and its killing me..
3) My question is also about your exercise program and how you find time to do it with two girls???

Alrighty, here we go!  Please, please know my heart in this post. Yes, I have had problems with exercising and eating in the past.  But my goals for myself have changed since those dark days.
Do I still struggle?
Yup.
Probably always will. But I God has brought me to a point in my life where exercise and eating doesn't have to be done in extreme.  It's for health and the plus is that I'll fit comfortably into my jeans. I have learned so much in my 30 year journey and I love to talk about it.

Just a flashback to those that don't know. I was always a chubby kid.  I was give or take 20lbs over weight thru middle and up thru my Freshman year of High School.  I am 5'4" so I didn't wear an extra 20lbs very well! Someone hurt my feelings and I vowed never to be overweight again. I dropped 25 lbs that year and have had to make conscious decisions to eat right and exercise since.  I did have a period of time in college, my freshman and sophomore year, that my focus went from being "healthy" to being as thin as I could get.  It was a challenge for me.. how low could I go?  Everyone always told me that I would gain the freshmen 15 when I went to school.. um, did the opposite and actually lost the freshman 25.  I went from a (healthy for me) 130 to 105lbs during my first year at Purdue.  My hair was falling out.. I lost my period for a year... I ate salads for lunch and dinner and oatmeal for breakfast... my size 1 jeans were getting loose.. I was so depressed.  It took my mom's illness with cancer to shake me out of my selfish pit of despare.  I was harming my body purposely and hers was being taken away from her.

I have been SO THANKFUL that I didn't screw up my body too much and God allowed us to have kids.   I am also thankful that I have the ability and am healthy to be able to exercise.  I also want to show my girls how important exercising is.. not to be thin, but to make this body God gave us as healthy as we can get it.  It's HIS temple.  It's our job to take care of it through exercising and eating well.  It's not my body.  I also have HORRIBLE genes. My grandma died in her mid 40's of MS, my grandpa died I believe before he was 50 of cancer, my grandma and grandpa on the other side had heart disease and diabetes and you all know my mom died at 51 with cancer.  And each side has a tendency to be "thick".  Darin has AMAZING genes so I hope that the girls get the Holsopple genes but Darin such a hard worker in all that he does.  If he sees the scale go up a few lbs then he gets to work getting them off.  And it takes him one day.  He works out, takes a run and takes a crap and he's back to his good weight. Just kidding but it feels that way!

So yeah, knowing that I have to work at being healthy and strong and in shape... that means I have to have a plan and get into a rhythm.  Here is my weekly (winter) exercise plan:

Monday:  1 hour cardio with Jillian

So yeah, that's my schedule. The summer it changes quite a bit since I like to be outside.  And I've kinda enjoyed running the past year.  NEVER would have guessed that I would like it but yeah, it's alone time and I love what it does to my body. =)

Here are some tips I have too to help keep in shape:
*I always have a turkey or ham sandwich for lunch. Always. It helps me not eat too much for lunch and keeps things in check.
*I kinda had to train my girls to let me work out.  They used to cling to me or ask for things or fuss when I exercised.  If you tell them you'll spend time with them after you are finished, get them involved with what you are doing they will soon learn that it's apart of the routine of the day.  And the other day I used Joya as my weight instead of a kettleball.. she loved being tossed around and I was SORE after the workout, that's for sure!
*A lot of times I'll pray before I start working out.. just ask God to honor the time I'm going to put into the health of my body. And to multiply it. =) Make me strong. He's been super faithful with that. =)

I know you love your girlies w/all your heart, but for baby H #3 (whenever that day comes!) does a little part of you hope for a little man? :)
HA!  It's crazy because a lot of gals I was PG with while I was PG with Joya are expecting their 3rd. Nope, no baby on this front!  We've always talked about having 3 babies.  I'm pretty sure we will.. but I NEVER thought I'd be this content with my 2 kids!  It's not like I'd love a 3rd any less, by any means.  Just always thought I would want 3 and can't believe we're not trying for a 3rd yet! Darin's a coach for football and girls track so I'd prefer the girls to be a tad bit older before we throw a 3rd in the mix.  He's super busy August-late October and then February - early June.  And yeah, I'd love to have a little boy last.. but Darin's pretty sure we'll have another girl. =)  Not sure I'd know what to do with all that junk in the diaper, either!

All I have to say is WOW! I've just started our Wii Fit...where it has you enter your goal of how much weight you want to loose & in how much time...and I kept to play games while I'm exercising! In 3 months, I'll see how it pays off! :) That's the only reason why we splurged & got the Wii so we could have the Wii Fit program & exercise while having fun. Or having fun while exercising. Depends on how ya wanna view it. Either way fun is involved! :)

shallow....and sad...

nothing shallow about trying to be HEALTHY and take care of your body :) you are being a good example to your daughters by making time for yourself and by being active.

Kudos to you for keeping up a routine! I agree with Jill...you are a great example for the girls. Don't worry about anonymous..they obviously have nothing better to do than stalk other people's blogs and leave mean comments.

Darcy~ I think anonymous is confused and wrote how they feel about themselves. So let's pray for their struggle with shallowness and sadness. Just wish we knew who we were praying for......
You are awesome and doing everything the way God would want you to be doing it. What a great example for not only your girls but your blog readers! =)

Darcy,
For those of us that actually know you and know your heart, this blog is beautiful. You are willing to show all sides of you, the dark and ugly parts that you have had to face and heal from, and how God has walked you thru it and how you stay balanced in your exercising and showing your girls how to do it in a healthy balance.

Yow are an encouragement to me, as one who also has struggled with an eating disorder how to have a healthy outlook on eating and exercising, and specifically showing Sam how to do it for health.

I love you and your friendship, and I am sorry that people have to talk disrespectfully, especially when they won't put a name to a comment. Praying for you my friend!

Dace, you are such a phenomenal woman. I am so BLESSED to call you my friend. This post really got me pumped to get into a regular exercise routine again. I am all about routines in 2011...got the scripture reading and picture taking down, now lets start the exercising! LOVE YOU!

Darcy, you are a beautiful woman and I am very thankful for your blog. It is so nice of you to share your life - the good and the struggles - with the world. When you open yourself up like this, you help a lot of people. Unfortunately, it seems that you also open yourself up to sad, angry people who want to tear you down. I will join you in praying for this sad person. They would be so lucky if they had a blessed life like yours. :) Amy

Hey anonymous! Who are you? If you are going to speak your mind shouldn't you be a strong enough person to at least admit who you are? Let's see how not sad you are by admitting your name! w.

It's shallow and sad that someone feels the need to post that on a blog that they are not forced to read and are obviously scared to let people know who they are.
Don't let this get to you. They are not worth the time.

I found the same thing - that if you emphasize at an early age that exercise is important then they learn to go with it. When my girls were small, I would set them up with puzzles or games or special toys to entertain them while I was on the treadmill. Or I would save Seasame St. for that time. Oh and we got a few exercise equipment items just for them -to work out at the same time....a small trampoline, rings to swing from (in our basement) and small hand weights. My parents never showed me the importance of exercise...so I have a lot of motivation to turn the tide and show them the importance of keeping our bodies in the best shape possible. Sounds like you are doing an amazing job at finding a good groove. An hour of cardio? More power to ya!

Darcy, Those of use that really know you, know that you are a Godly woman, loving and caring wife and mother. You are beautiful woman inside and out and I know that I am blessed to have you as a friend and fellow coaches wife. Sometimes Satan tries to attack us and when we don't fall for his games, he tries even harder. So, stay strong, committed to your God and family and remember that by telling our stories we can inspire and bless others around. So tell away girl, love ya :)

Thanks for sharing your exercise routine! I find it so hard to work out unless I get up early, or wait until the kids have gone to bed. Having two little ones makes it challenging. You are setting a great example for your girls! Our kids need to know exercising and eating right is important. I really enjoy reading your blog. :)

Darcy,

I absolutely love reading your blogs. You are hilarious and an inspiration in everyway. I have to say what a sad life anonymous must have to read a blog they don't have to and be nasty about it.

I agree with everyone else Darcy! When my son was sick for 2 weeks recently, there was a lot of sitting on the couch time, and I went back and read your old posts. You are such an inspiration! Seriously. Really made me want to be a better wife and mom. Thank you for being honest and a great example of a Christian woman.
